KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS- 26 JULY 2024 ( A SHORT READING ON THE DAY)
Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on 26th July to rekindle the pride and valour of the soldiers who took part in Operation Vijay. The day marks the victory of Indian soldiers in capturing the mountain heights that were occupied by the Pakistani Army on Jul 26, 1999 known as the Kargil War.
TO MARK THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DAY, TODAY A SHORT READING EXHIBITION TO SHOWCASE THE BRAVERY OF KARGIL HEROES IS ORGANIZED IN OUR LIBRARY.
HISTORY AND SIGNIFICANCE ABOUT THE DAY
The Kargil War in 1999
happened because India and Pakistan have long argued over who controls Kashmir.
Both countries claimed the area since they split in 1947. This disagreement led
to wars and small fights between their armies over the years. The conflict got
worse when both countries tested nuclear weapons in 1998, making the situation
even more dangerous.
In the
end, India succeeded in pushing Pakistani forces out of the Kargil area. This
conflict showed how serious the Kashmir dispute is and how risky it can be when
tensions between India and Pakistan rise. It also highlighted the need for both
countries to find peaceful ways to solve their differences, especially in such
a sensitive and important region.
So, Kargil
Vijay Diwas is celebrated on Celebrated on July
